Pilates exercise ball - physioball or Swiss ball.
Were talking about that big ball.
Well, this is not a development of Joseph Pilates, having more recent popularity but is sure lends itself to Pilates and various exercises.
Exercising on the Pilates exercise ball brings in an element of instability something the famous core (those deep muscles in the pelvic area) love to be challenged with. Instability is a body challenge and makes the body turn the systems on fast.
You can purchase an exercise ball and other Pilates equipment at the Body Trends link below:
Its good training for the body in life where sudden instabilities may happen and its great for athletes, dancers and the like.
So the ball works very well as a next step up.
Best not to learn the exercises on a ball. Learn them on the floor tune in that core first. Then add the ball as a challenge.
Secondly the ball is useful for keeping areas flexible and moving.
For instance it helps facilitate pelvic movements and I use it to help a person find neutral pelvis and loosen up tight muscles in that area.
Thirdly ooh that stretch. It gives some great stretches really good spine stretches over the ball and legs, on it sideways over the ball gets to tight muscles in the back.
You can get some really good butt and hamstring strengthening exercises on the ball. Its great for knee exercises, rehabilitation exercises and otherwise you can use it to get stretches in the hip flexors too.
The list goes on.
The Pilates exercise ball is fun too, especially when they get away on you in a class. It lends itself to a whole flowing workout with a ball there.
Remember - you need a ball correct for your height.
45 cm less than 48
55 cm 48 to 54
65 cm 54 to 60
75 cm over 60
