Strength Training for Woman

Looks can be deceiving. You do not have to be bulky to be strong.

You can look like a sylph yet be incredibly strong.

It starts with a core. Those deeper muscles in the weight bearing center of the body that make the foundation for strength. Without them strength is superficial ,literally on the outside only and can collapse.

It’s like having a pillar that is empty inside supporting a building versus one with a steel center. Which one would you rely on?

When the core starts to strengthen, you can then move into other areas and strengthen those. For instance lifting something heavy is not the arms – it’s the core (and not just the abs) plus a strong spine and back muscles. The arms are really the tool the heavy things are held by, not the engine that lifts it.

So Pilates increases your strength from the inside out and sometimes that requires releasing outer muscles that have become too tense and tight and no longer effectively work , usually because they have not had a core to share the load with.

Yep it’s true. With Pilates you do not need weights to develop strength. By the resistance of your own body and by the use of springs providing resistance you can develop strength.

A long slender muscle in the arm can be as strong as a rounded bulky one with this method. And you will retain the flexibility of the muscle.

True muscle strength starts with a strong core – the deep abdominal, deep back muscle, pelvic floor and diaphragm.

Correct use and coordination of these and strengthening thereby enables the outer muscles to be supported more ,to relax and concentrate on gaining strength for their particular jobs.

This kind of strength becomes effortless strength. You know you have seen that in a dancer or gymnast. Resistive springs create strength while developing length.
